Happy New Year from Cascais

It is another sunny day here. However, the COVID restrictions don't allow us to venture out after 1 p.m. for the next few days so we're staying close to home. On Wednesday, we went to the town's farmer's market that is held twice a week. We will definitely be regular visitors. On Wednesdays, they also have a flea market of sorts which was interesting the browse.

The market itself is under a huge tent and has several shops along one side such as a butcher, a bread shop, fish market, flower stall, and a pastry shop which I can attest makes excellent cookies. There are also restaurants and cafes around the market so it is nice to go and grab a snack or lunch to make the shopping trip complete.

Here are some more things we've learned:

- One can buy a very nice bottle of regional red wine in the grocery store for about 5 euros ($6).

- One can have four beers and four glasses of wine at a little cafe near one's home for 10 euros ($12).

- At a lovely pastry shop near this little cafe, one can buy amazing rolls for 16 cents each. The pastry shops are going to kill me.

- When one does not have a clothes dryer, a load of laundry takes between 48 to 72 hours to dry on a drying rack in one's apartment. (Dryers are just not a thing here in Portugal.)

We wish all of you all the best in 2021. Get that vaccination and come to visit.

You will most likely walk off any cookies and/or pastries. Enjoy and be safe! Happy 2021. Looking forward to living vicariously through your explorations. Cheers Diana

Hey Winnie and Will (and Chili dog!). I just took a minute to read your posts and am so excited for all of you. Such an amazing experience you will all have and I'm more than a little jealous. Matt and I have been spending time lately watching old episodes of The Amazing Race so that we can vicarious "travel" through others for the time being. So, I'll be stalking your adventures as well. Miss you guys and wish you all a happy New Year! Chris
