Lock Down

Late last week, Portugal was put under lock down to try to control the latest COVID surge. We expect this to last until the end of February. The restrictions mainly apply to residents and those with cars. They are very strict about not traveling between councils (roughly equivalent to a county) except for work or medical reasons. Grocery stores and pharmacies are open but most other shops are closed. We are allowed to walk to exercise ourselves or the dog in our immediate neighborhood. They have also just closed the schools for two weeks. So they are quite serious about it. An important note: the pastry shops are still open. Seriously.

The only real impact this has on us is that we are stuck close to home. Our plans to continue to explore Lisbon or Sintra are on hold for now. Since we only know a very few people, we are not at any risk of attending large parties. It has been a little gray and rainy for the past week or so which also makes it easier to stay inside. In the mean time, we daydream about the places we'll go once the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to go out.

One other note is that Will went to the pharmacy earlier this week to get a prescription filled and the cost was about half of what he was paying in the US. So....there's that.

A journey is not an adventure without a few bumps in the road. Hang in there. Miss you both.

Snowing here today - but not a big storm. just more messy. Vaccinations are starting to rollout here -- 70 and up are getting scheduled -- I did have an argument that I should be allowed to get in line because I'm living my 70th year. But supplies into Maine have been less than expected -- hope they sort the supply chain soon. Everyone here is starting to get serious cabin fever as we come into the year anniversary of this crap. I will say that I totally enjoyed the festivities of the 20th -- even though I had to drink alone -- but that's nothing new. Stay safe -- what about vaccination for you and Will -- wi…

Sorry your explorations have been out in hold for the time being! Much the same here as when you left. Eddie and I were able to get the first of our two vaccines and will return Feb 17 fir the second shot. I think we will ALL be glad when this is under control! I wish we had a pastry shop to wander to! That would be the highlight of my day for sure! Take care and be safe!

Sorry to hear that you paid so little for your prescriptions. The European medical system can't hold a candle next to the amazingly inferior US system. What does that even mean "holding a candle" next to something. Are we trying to start a fire? We all know about the long wait times to see a doctor in Europe too! I only had to wait 2 months for my last surgery, and then after spending the whole day in pre-op, they sent me home to reschedule because they didn't have any available rooms. You guys have been in coochie coochie for how long already and you're only just now getting to see a doctor? The wait must have been unbearable! Whe…
