Moving on Up

In my last post, I mentioned our upcoming move to a new apartment. Today we signed our contract (lease) and paid our deposit and a couple of months' rent. We are really excited about it. When we first arrived and took a walk down to what was soon to become our favorite cliffside restaurant, we saw this building and immediately felt jealous of anyone who could live there. It is right across the street from the ocean. The building is called Cascais Atrium. It turns out they had a terrible fire there in 2016. While there was no damage to structural integrity of the building, all of the condos were ruined either by the fire or water damage. It seems that then the insurance companies took over and it has been mired in Portuguese bureaucracy since then. This all works in our favor. They are still waiting for final permits but we are hoping to move in some time in June. The apartment is brand new; two bedrooms and two baths. We have two verandas both of which have an unobstructed sea view. The photo below on the lower left is the view from the veranda off our dining area. With a pool, gym, pool bar, shops, and restaurant, it really is a deee-luxe apartment in the sky.

The apartment is not furnished. So I am in the running to be Ikea's customer of the year. Big Bidness and I have already made two pilgrimages and will be making a few more before we move.

We were planning to go to the Algarve last week. However, Will has been having some severe back problems so we have delayed that trip. We did manage a brief outing to the town of Ericeira last weekend. It is up the coast an hour or so. It is a lovely town right on the Atlantic that is popular with surfers. Chili enjoyed the ride and we all enjoyed the sights. I included a photo below of some cool upside down umbrellas that are popular at outdoor cafes. And there are some more photos of the seaside cliffs. Ho hum. :)

Oh beautiful pictures. I'm sure you'll enjoy the views from the new apartment ... what floor have you rented on? Glad to know you are finally able to be out and about and hope this finds Will feeling top of the morning soon. Of course you've probably heard now that we can all get out and about there is a fuel crises ... HA! Enjoy your adventures and don't let Will move anything that will add to back woes. K

Wow, those views!!! Question, where does the rain go on those upside down umbrellas? Are there holes in the bottom for draining? Asking for an engineer friend...

Replying to

We think the water would just drain. They do close them up when not in use. Will thinks they would be better in windy conditions than conventional umbrellas.
