Answers to Many of Your Questions

Updated: Oct 23, 2020

Q: Are you selling your house?

A: No. We are planning to stay in Portugal for about two years. We are going to rent our house in Chapel Hill furnished.

Q. Where are you going to live in Portugal?

A. We have decided to settle in Cascais, which is in the south of the country, about 30 KM west of Lisbon. It is located directly on the Atlantic. The climate is very temperate, with temperatures ranging from a low of 55 degrees in the winter to a high of about 85 degrees in the summer. Cascais is a short and scenic train ride into Lisbon. It has good public transportation, which is good because we are not going to have a car. This area is sometimes referred to as the Portuguese Riviera.

Q. Why are so few people in the water in this photo?

A. The water temperature never gets above 65 degrees.

Q. How do you pronounce "Cascais?"

A. There does not seem to be a definitive or single answer. The best we can figure is that it is pronounced kash-kaysh.

Q. What about Chili?

A. This has been a major concern for us. The latest plan is that she will be vacationing with some friends here in NC while we get settled in Cascais. Then in a month or so, Will is going to return and complete the many necessary steps to bring her back to Portugal. There is no quarantine but there are, once again, many many details to take care of both here and in Portugal. So far she seems fine with this plan. However, I think the actual plane ride is going to be a big problem for her.
